## Editorial
The Bureau of Meteorology is Australia's national meteorological agency, headquartered in Melbourne and operating under the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. [^bom-wikipedia][^bom-ceo-appointment] It was founded on 1 January 1908 under the Meteorology Act 1906. [^bom-wikipedia] For EO buyers, BoM is a satellite-data user and ground-receiving operator rather than an owner of EO satellites: it receives geostationary weather imagery from the Himawari system and polar-orbiting data through NOAA JPSS channels. [^bom-satellites-page] Its Himawari reception includes a Crib Point, Melbourne ground station with a 2.4 m C-band dish installed for Himawari-8 data reception. [^avcomm-himawari8] Australia and Japan expanded meteorological satellite collaboration in November 2024, including planned access to the Himawari-10 programme and 2.5-minute imagery for the Australian region. [^met-tech-intl-jma-2024] Dr Stuart Minchin was appointed CEO in November 2025. [^bom-ceo-appointment]
