MODIS MCD64A1 Monthly Global Burned Area (Collection 6.1) is a Level-3 product that maps global burned area extent at 500 m spatial resolution on a monthly basis. The algorithm identifies burn-date transitions using MODIS 500 m surface reflectance in bands 5 and 7 (SWIR) combined with 1 km MODIS active fire observations from both Terra and Aqua platforms.[^earthdata-mcd64a1]

The sinusoidal projection grid covers the global land surface. Temporal resolution is monthly, with the archive beginning on 2000-11-01.
