## Editorial
AlSat-1 was Algeria's first satellite and an early Disaster Monitoring Constellation precursor, operated for national wide-area Earth observation and disaster monitoring use cases.[^sstl-alsat-1] The mission used an SSTL-100 microsatellite bus carrying the Slim 6 Line Imager, with a 600 km swath, 32 m ground sampling, and three spectral bands for medium-resolution optical coverage.[^sstl-alsat-1][^gunter-alsat-1] It launched on 2002-11-28 and operated in sun-synchronous low Earth orbit at about 700 km before the mission ended in August 2010.[^gunter-alsat-1]
