## Editorial
Copernicus Emergency Management Service On Demand Mapping (EMS ODM) delivers rapid satellite and aerial imagery analysis products to support civil protection authorities before, during, and after disasters and crises.[^copernicus-ems-mapping-about] The service is managed by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) and is provided free of charge to authorised users, which include EU Member States civil protection authorities, countries participating in the European Civil Protection Mechanism, and relevant Commission Directorates-General.[^copernicus-ems-mapping-about]

Three service portfolios are available: Rapid Mapping produces reference maps, damage delineations, grading assessments, and situational reports within hours to days of an event on a 24/7/365 basis; Risk and Recovery Mapping supports disaster-prevention planning and post-event reconstruction; and Preparedness Mapping provides pre-disaster geospatial information products.[^copernicus-ems-rapid-mapping][^copernicus-ems-risk-recovery]

Imagery inputs span Sentinel programme missions and Copernicus Contributing Missions across resolution classes from sub-metre very-high resolution to medium resolution; both optical and synthetic aperture radar data are used.[^copernicus-ems-eo-data] Analytical methods include optical and SAR change detection, burned-area mapping, and multi-sensor fusion.[^copernicus-ems-mapping-about] Non-restricted activation products are publicly downloadable; raw satellite data is not distributed directly to the public.[^copernicus-insitu-odm]
