## Editorial
MeteoSAR is an X-band synthetic aperture radar meteorological imager on the Meteor-M N2-4 Earth-observation payload set.[^wmo-meteosar][^wmo-meteor-m-n2-4] It operates at a 9.623 GHz centre frequency and supports multi-polarisation SAR imaging.[^wmo-meteosar] Its mode-dependent imaging geometry includes swath from 10 to 750 km and resolution entries of 1 m and 5 to 500 m depending on mode, so the useful capability is mode-specific rather than a single fixed ground sample distance.[^wmo-meteosar]

Its Earth-observation applications are all-weather imaging of ocean, land and ice, plus wave-direction and wave-period variables from SAR imagettes.[^wmo-meteosar] Meteor-M N2-4 is an operational meteorology mission with land-observation contribution, and MeteoSAR is the radar Earth-observation instrument in that mission context.[^wmo-meteor-m-n2-4] WMO records MeteoSAR as operating separately because of Meteor-M N2-4 spacecraft-orientation constraints.[^wmo-meteor-m-n2-4] SAR backscatter is demonstrated on Meteor-M N2-4 through MeteoSAR.[^wmo-meteosar]
