## Editorial
The Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) is a 12-channel passive optical radiometer operating in geostationary orbit as the primary imaging payload aboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellites.[^eoportal-msg] It covers the spectral range from approximately 0.6 to 13.4 micrometres across eleven narrowband channels and one broadband High Resolution Visible (HRV) channel.[^eoportal-msg] The HRV channel samples at 1 km ground sampling distance; all other channels sample at 3 km.[^eoportal-msg]

The channel set spans visible, near-infrared, mid-wave infrared, water vapour absorption, and thermal infrared bands, enabling a range of atmospheric and surface measurements from the geostationary vantage point.[^eoportal-msg] SEVIRI acquires a full Earth disc in approximately 12 minutes and repeats the cycle every 15 minutes.[^eoportal-msg] The instrument has a field of view of approximately 18.4 degrees east-west by 18.01 degrees north-south.[^eoportal-msg]

SEVIRI is manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space (formerly Astrium SAS).[^eoportal-msg][^esa-msg-facts][^eumetsat-msg-instruments] It has flown on MSG-1 (Meteosat-8), MSG-2 (Meteosat-9), MSG-3 (Meteosat-10), and MSG-4 (Meteosat-11).[^eoportal-msg] The instrument supports operational applications including sea surface temperature retrieval, atmospheric motion vector derivation, thermal anomaly detection, land surface temperature and emissivity retrieval, and vegetation index mapping.[^eumetsat-msg-instruments]
