The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is an independent federal environmental agency focused on protecting human health and the environment through regulations, research, grants and partnerships.[1] In Earth observation contexts, EPA is primarily a data consumer, platform operator and validation partner rather than a satellite owner.[2][3] Its Remote Sensing Information Gateway provides access to large environmental datasets including satellite data, model outputs and ground-station observations.[2] EPA also participates in satellite air-quality validation work, including a 2023 Long Island Sound campaign using Pandora spectrometers and in-situ analyzers to validate TEMPO measurements of NO2, O3 and HCHO.[3] The agency's EO role is strongest around air quality, exposure assessment and integration of satellite observations into public environmental monitoring.[2][3]
