Japanese national meteorological agency operating the Himawari geostationary meteorological satellite series.
Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is Japan's national meteorological authority, responsible for weather forecasting, earthquake and tsunami monitoring, and the operation of Japan's geostationary meteorological satellite series.[1] JMA operates the Himawari satellite family from geostationary orbit, providing continuous imagery over the Asia-Pacific region.[2] Himawari-8 served as primary operational satellite until December 2022, when it transitioned to standby; Himawari-9 subsequently took over as the primary operational satellite.[2] JMA is organised under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.[3]
