USDA Foreign Agricultural Service is a United States Department of Agriculture agency focused on agricultural export promotion, food aid, trade program administration, and global agricultural production assessment.[1] Its International Production Assessment Division produces global crop condition and production estimates for grains, oilseeds, and cotton, using Earth observation as one input rather than operating satellites itself.[1] For EO users, FAS is most relevant as an institutional consumer and distributor of crop-monitoring analysis: its Crop Explorer and geospatial data services expose satellite-derived indicators for global agricultural monitoring.[2] The GLAM project connects FAS crop assessment workflows with 8-day, 250 m MODIS NDVI from Terra and Aqua for near-real-time global crop condition monitoring.[3]
