World Meteorological Organization is a United Nations agency headquartered in Geneva, founded on 23 March 1950 and responsible for international coordination across weather, climate, hydrology, and related environmental services.[1] In Earth observation, WMO coordinates the space-based component of the global meteorological observing system and works with satellite operators on nominal six-satellite geostationary meteorological coverage.[2] WMO also maintains an online catalogue of Earth observation satellites and instruments with gap-analysis functions, making it central to requirements tracking and observing-system planning.[3] Its role for EO users is coordination, requirements visibility, and observing-system intelligence for meteorological and climate applications.
