OSI SAF ASCAT ocean wind products are Level-2 ocean surface wind retrievals derived from the Advanced SCATterometer (ASCAT) on MetOp-A, MetOp-B, and MetOp-C, produced by KNMI for the EUMETSAT Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (OSI SAF).[1] Wind speed (10 m equivalent neutral, m/s) and wind direction (degrees, meteorological convention) are retrieved at 25 km grid spacing for the standard product, with a 12.5 km coastal variant (OSI-104) for near-shore applications.[2][3] Auxiliary variables include C-band sigma0 from the fore, mid, and aft beams, wind speed uncertainty, ice probability, and quality flags. Product IDs in the current archive include OSI-102-b (MetOp-B 25 km NRT), OSI-102-c (MetOp-C 25 km NRT), OSI-104-b (MetOp-B 12.5 km coastal NRT), OSI-104-c (MetOp-C 12.5 km coastal NRT), OSI-150-a (MetOp-A 25 km climate data record 2007-2014), and OSI-150-b (MetOp-A 12.5 km climate data record 2007-2014).[2][4] The retrieval algorithm was CMOD5 and its successor CMOD5.n in earlier product versions; NRT operations were upgraded to CMOD7 on 2018-09-25 and the climate data record (OSI-150) was reprocessed with CMOD7.[1][5] NRT delivery latency is approximately 2 h 45 min from sensing. MetOp-B NRT coverage runs from 2013-05-27; MetOp-C NRT from 2019-02-12.[2][3] Products are distributed in BUFR (NRT) and NetCDF (climate record) formats under a CC-BY-4.0 licence, open access via the OSI SAF portal.
