Sentinel-1 Level-2 Ocean (OCN)
Sentinel-1 Level-2 Ocean (OCN) products are derived from the C-SAR instrument (C-band, 5.405 GHz) on Sentinel-1A, Sentinel-1B (until its mission ended in 2022) and Sentinel-1C, with data available from 2014-04-03.[1] The product bundles three components. The Ocean Wind Field (OWI) delivers ground-range gridded estimates of 10 m wind speed and direction using the CMOD5.n geophysical model function applied to VV-polarisation backscatter; grid spacing is 1 km for Interferometric Wide (IW) and Stripmap (SM) modes, and 2 km for Extra Wide (EW) mode.[2] The Ocean Swell Spectra (OSW) component provides two-dimensional ocean surface swell spectra with wind speed and direction per 25 km vignette, primarily from Wave (WV) mode; since October 2025, OSW is also produced from IW and EW TOPS modes.[1] The Surface Radial Velocity (RVL) component derives a Doppler difference field, providing a surface radial velocity proxy for IW and EW modes, offering continuity from the Envisat ASAR RVL product.[1] Swath widths are 250 km (IW), 400 km (EW), 80 km (SM), and 20 km (WV); single-satellite revisit is 6 days. Products are distributed in NetCDF format under the Copernicus open-access licence via the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem.
