Sentinel-5P TROPOMI L2 Methane (CH4)

Sentinel-5P TROPOMI L2 Methane (CH4) delivers total column methane (XCH4) measurements derived from nadir passive remote sensing in the SWIR spectral bands at 1600-1671 nm and 2305-2385 nm. The retrieval produces dry-air column-averaged mixing ratios expressed in parts per billion.[1]

Spatial resolution improved on 2019-08-06: the pixel size changed from 7 x 7 km to 7 x 5.5 km. Both resolutions are present in the archive.[1] Swath width is 2600 km, providing daily global coverage. A quality flag filter of QA > 0.5 is recommended for most applications to exclude cloudy or degraded retrievals.[1]

The dataset is distributed in OFFL (offline scientific) mode. The V2 dataset covers 2021-07-01 onward; a reprocessed V1 record extends from 2018-04-30. The dataset is identified by DOI 10.5270/S5P-3lcdqiv.[1]

Access is free and open via the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem, NASA GES DISC, and Google Earth Engine.[2]
