Multi-institution coalition initiative producing annual land cover and land use maps for Brazil and an expanding set of Latin American, Caribbean, and Indonesian jurisdictions. Built on the complete Landsat archive (1985 onward) processed through Google Earth Engine with per-biome random forest classifiers; Collection 10.1 released February 2026 covers Brazil at 30 m with 29 classes across 1985 to 2024. Companion alert product MapBiomas Alerta runs weekly. Coordinated by an independent scientific team led by Tasso Azevedo (general), Julia Shimbo (scientific), and Marcos Rosa (technical), with biome-specific leadership from IPAM Amazonia (Cerrado), Imazon (Amazon degradation), SOS Mata Atlantica (Atlantic Forest), and UFRGS (Pampa). INPE participates only via the Scientific Advisory Committee and is not the operator. The manufacturer FK resolves to the mapbiomas consortium company entry.
MapBiomas is an analysis-service product operated by the MapBiomas Network consortium for annual land-cover and land-use maps and related thematic products.[1] MapBiomas Brasil published Collection 10.1 on 2026-02-09 for annual land-cover and land-use maps covering 1985-2024.[2] MapBiomas Brasil Collection 10 has 30 mapped classes covering 40 years of Brazilian land-cover and land-use data from 1985 to 2024.[3] MapBiomas methodology uses Landsat imagery, image mosaics, Google Earth Engine, biome and theme specific classification, random forest classifiers, and post-classification spatial and temporal filters.[4][5][6] MapBiomas collections are exposed through the MapBiomas platform and Google Earth Engine assets, including Brazil LULC Collection 10.1 coverage and deforestation and secondary-vegetation assets.[7][8] MapBiomas LULC datasets are annual Landsat-derived machine-learning classifications at 30 m resolution for multiple countries, including Brazil.[8]
