Marmoris delivers data-driven insights from satellite and in-situ sources to protect aquatic biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Marmoris Coastal Ecosystem Insights is a satellite-based monitoring and analysis service for coastal and aquatic ecosystems, delivered by Marmoris B.V. (Noordwijk, Netherlands).[1] The company was founded in 2021 and completed the ESA BIC Noordwijk incubation programme (2021-2023) and the Copernicus Accelerator.[2]
The service covers four categories: Environmental Impact Assessment and Compliance, using satellite time series and the Before-After-Control-Impact (BACI) framework for baseline characterisation, construction monitoring, and harmful algal bloom screening; Biodiversity and Water Quality Monitoring, measuring chlorophyll-a, suspended sediment, coloured dissolved organic matter, turbidity, and sea surface temperature from satellite observations; Blue Economy and Ecosystem Restoration, supporting site selection, restoration outcome evaluation, and habitat health assessment; and Predictive Services, including scenario analysis and bloom-risk forecasting.[1][3]
Satellite data sources include Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3, supplemented by in-situ field data.[1] Ecosystems covered include coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows, and kelp forests. Outputs include technical reports, interactive dashboards, mobile applications, geospatial data products (maps, shapefiles, GeoTIFFs), and early warning systems.[1] Clients include aquaculture operators, offshore renewable energy developers, fisheries management authorities, blue carbon projects, and coastal authorities across Europe, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.[3]
