Ku-band scatterometer flown on CFOSAT for sea-surface wind measurement; WMO OSCAR records the instrument as inactive after degradation in 2022.
CFOSAT Scatterometer (SCAT), also recorded as CSCAT, was the rotating fan-beam Ku-band scatterometer flown on CFOSAT for sea-surface vector wind measurement.[1] The instrument operated at 13.256 GHz with dual co-polarised HH and VV measurements.[1] Its rotating fan-beam geometry provided a 1000 km swath, with 50 km high-quality data resolution, 10 km basic sampling and incidence angles from 18 to 50 degrees.[1][2] The scatterometer demonstrated radar scatterometry on CFOSAT for ocean wind retrieval.[1] SCAT is inactive after 30 Nov 2022 because of degradation and stability issues; SWIM remained active on the same mission.[3]
