KOMPSAT-3A infrared imaging payload for night-time and thermal observation, paired with AEISS-A on the Arirang-3A spacecraft.
Sensor
IIP is the KOMPSAT-3A Infrared Imaging Payload, a passive mid-wave infrared imager paired with AEISS-A on KOMPSAT-3A / Arirang-3A [1][2]. It images in one mid-wave infrared band from 3.3 to 5.2 um, with 5.5 m ground sampling and a 12 km swath [3][4]. The payload supports night-time and thermal Earth observation alongside the spacecraft's electro-optical camera, giving KOMPSAT-3A an infrared imaging channel rather than only visible and near-infrared collection [1][4]. The instrument has been active on KOMPSAT-3A since June 2015, with estimated or assumed end of life at or beyond 2026 [2].
