CEOS WGCV IVOS Calibration and Validation Framework

CEOS WGCV IVOS is the Infrared and Visible Optical Sensors Subgroup, the international sensor-level calibration and validation protocol authority for VNIR, SWIR, and TIR optical EO instruments. It defines Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Sites, inter-sensor cross-calibration protocols, and vicarious calibration best practices that anchor radiometric harmonisation across hyperspectral missions including PRISMA, EnMAP, EMIT, and HISUI.

The CEOS WGCV Infrared and Visible Optical Sensors (IVOS) Subgroup is the international protocol authority for radiometric calibration and validation of VNIR, SWIR, and TIR optical EO instruments.[1] Operating under the CEOS Working Group on Calibration and Validation,[2] IVOS establishes Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Sites (PICS), desert and bright-target sites with stable radiometric properties used to transfer absolute calibration across satellite missions.[3] It defines inter-sensor cross-calibration protocols enabling direct radiometric harmonisation between instruments on different spacecraft, and publishes vicarious calibration best practices.[1] Operational outputs and harmonisation reference products are accessible via the CEOS Cal/Val Portal.[4] IVOS calibration protocols are adopted by hyperspectral missions including PRISMA, EnMAP, EMIT, and HISUI to anchor their L1 radiance products to common radiometric references.[1]
