The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is an international intergovernmental partnership that coordinates Earth observation activity across governments and participating organizations.[1] Established in 2005 after the Earth Observation summits, GEO coordinates the Global Earth Observation System of Systems, an integrating framework for linking existing and planned observation systems and filling gaps where new systems are needed.[1][2] Its role is coordination rather than spacecraft operation: member governments and their agencies operate the satellites and observing systems that feed the framework.[1] GEO promotes open, full, and free access to Earth observation data and is organized through a Plenary, Executive Committee, Programme Board, and Secretariat hosted in Geneva by WMO.[3][4]
