Satelligence
Dutch SaaS company providing satellite-based supply-chain deforestation monitoring and EUDR compliance services. Consumes open satellite data (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Landsat, PlanetScope) and produces audit-grade plot-level risk intelligence. Not an EO operator or instrument manufacturer. Co-developer of the RADD Sentinel-1 alert system with Wageningen University.
Satelligence is a Dutch commercial EO analytics company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands. The company produces satellite-based supply-chain intelligence for agricultural commodity buyers, traders, and financial institutions seeking to demonstrate deforestation-free sourcing and comply with EU sustainability regulations.[^about-page][^funding-2020]
The platform ingests open satellite imagery, primarily Sentinel-1 C-band SAR and Sentinel-2 multispectral data from the EU Copernicus programme supplemented by Landsat and NICFI high-resolution imagery, and applies machine learning to generate weekly deforestation alerts and plot-level risk scores for agricultural concessions and supply-chain networks.[^radd-paper][^eudr-page] Sentinel-1's all-weather imaging capability is central to operations in cloud-prone tropical forest regions; Satelligence co-developed the RADD (Radar for Detecting Deforestation) Sentinel-1 alert system with Wageningen University and WRI, which feeds the Global Forest Watch platform.[^radd-paper]
The company offers three main service lines: a core deforestation monitoring platform covering palm oil, soy, cocoa, coffee, cattle, rubber, and wood; Deepview, a supply-chain risk propagation tool that maps producer-trader-manufacturer relationships to identify high-risk tiers within complex value chains; and a biomass module providing aboveground carbon change estimates at supply-chain level for Scope 3 emissions reporting.[^incubed-deepview][^incubed-biomass] All three are subscription-based SaaS products.
For buyers subject to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the platform handles end-to-end due diligence: plot geolocation upload, satellite-based risk assessment benchmarked against the EUDR cutoff date (31 December 2020), case tracking with audit-ready logging, and direct submission of Due Diligence Statements to the EU TRACES registry.[^eudr-page] Satelligence is directly engaged in EU regulatory pilots and confirmed as a provider to Competent Authorities and producer governments.
Clients include multinational consumer goods companies (Mondelez, Unilever, Bunge, Cargill, PepsiCo, Wilmar, Neste) and financial institutions using the platform for ESG portfolio deforestation risk screening (Rabobank, Robeco, IFC).[^funding-2020][^cargill] The company operates approximately 50 staff across 9 offices globally.
Satelligence raised $2.3 million in a seed round in November 2020 from 4impact and the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme.[^funding-2020] Two subsequent product development projects were co-funded by ESA InCubed: Deepview (2021) and the Satelligence Biomass module (2023-2024).[^incubed-biomass]
