Sentinel Asia is an Asia-Pacific disaster-management cooperation framework that connects satellite data providers, disaster-management organisations, and end users for emergency observation and data distribution.[1][2] The initiative was formally approved in 2005, and its joint project team and Step 1 operations began in 2006, making 2005 the approval year and 2006 the operational start.[1] Its operating model uses data-provider nodes, data-analysis nodes, emergency observation requests, and a Web-GIS distribution platform to support disaster response across the region.[1][2] Registered satellite contributions include optical and radar missions from multiple national and regional providers, including ALOS-2 as a primary SAR contribution.[1][3] The programme advanced from Step 1 in 2006-2007 to Step 2 in 2008-2012 and Step 3 from 2013 onward.[1] More than 100 organisations participated as of 2023, and 2023 membership expansion included a new data-provider node from the Philippines.[2][4]
