Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) is a Canadian smallsat manufacturer and operator founded in 1998 at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS).[1] Over 27 years SFL developed a record of operationally successful small satellites in the 3-500 kg range: SFL reports 98 operational successes and 448+ cumulative satellite-years in orbit as of 2026.[2]

SFL's platform portfolio includes the NEMO (approximately 15 kg), DEFIANT (approximately 30 kg), and DAUNTLESS (scalable, 1x1x1 m) satellite bus families.[1] Key customers include GHGSat, HawkEye 360, the Norwegian Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency.[1]

A successor private company, SFL Missions Inc., was incorporated in 2023 to continue the satellite work; the corporate separation from the University of Toronto was still in progress as of 2025.[2]
