Copernicus Marine Global Ocean Waves Analysis and Forecast

The Copernicus Marine Global Ocean Waves Analysis and Forecast product (ID GLOBAL_ANALYSISFORECAST_WAV_001_027) is a global L4 wave model product distributed by the Copernicus Marine Service. It provides analysis fields and multi-day forecasts of the ocean wave state on a 0.083-degree (approximately 9 km) global grid, updated daily with a 3-hourly temporal resolution.[1][2]

The product is produced by Meteo-France using the MFWAM third-generation spectral wave model. Output variables include significant wave height (SWH), mean wave period, peak period, mean wave direction, primary and secondary swell components, and wind sea parameters.[1] The model assimilates along-track altimeter significant-wave-height observations from multiple satellite altimetry missions, and the MFWAM configuration is capable of assimilating SAR wave-mode directional ocean spectra from synthetic aperture radar sensors.[1]

Both analysis (hindcast) and forecast datasets are included, with a multi-day forecast horizon suitable for marine operations and safety applications. The product is freely available via the CMEMS data portal and is also accessible through Google Earth Engine under an open licence.[2]
