Copernicus Marine Service
Copernicus Marine Service is the European Union's operational marine data and information service for ocean monitoring. It is funded through Copernicus and implemented by Mercator Ocean International through a pan-European production and service network, so buyers should treat it as a public service/distribution network rather than a commercial company.[1][2] The service provides free and open marine products through Copernicus Marine Data Store, including physical ocean, sea-ice, and biogeochemical information for global and regional seas.[3][4] Access routes include subset delivery for chosen variables, areas, times, and depths, original producer files, and map services for browser or GIS visualisation.[5] The Copernicus Marine Toolbox adds CLI and Python API access for metadata, subsetting, and original-file retrieval, including NetCDF, Zarr, and selected GeoTIFF or Shapefile workflows.[6] Product latency, formats, accuracy, and service availability vary by product and access route, so procurement and integration checks should be done at product level rather than at service-brand level.[3][5]
