Copernicus Marine SMOS CATDS Qualified L2Q Sea Surface Salinity

The Copernicus Marine SMOS CATDS Qualified L2Q Sea Surface Salinity product (ID MULTIOBS_GLO_PHY_SSS_L3_MYNRT_015_014, DOI 10.48670/mds-00368) is a global L3 sea surface salinity dataset distributed by the Copernicus Marine Service.[1][2]

The product is derived from SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) mission observations processed by CATDS (Centre Aval de Traitement des Donnees SMOS) at IFREMER. The CATDS generates qualified L2Q per-orbit SSS swath retrievals from the MIRAS L-band (1.4 GHz) microwave radiometer aboard SMOS; these are then gridded to a daily 0.25-degree global L3 product and quality-filtered to remove contaminated retrievals.[1] The slug designation L2Q refers to the upstream CATDS qualified L2 input; the distributed Copernicus Marine product is at L3 processing level.

Variables include daily sea surface salinity fields with associated uncertainty estimates and quality flags. Near-real-time (NRT) and multiyear reprocessed (REP) streams are provided. The product is open access via the CMEMS data portal under the Copernicus Marine licence.[1]
