COSMIC-EYE infrastructure monitoring detects ground disturbances and activity near critical infrastructure.
COSMIC-EYE Infrastructure Monitoring is an AI-powered satellite service from Orbital Eye that detects third-party interferences (TPI) and ground elevation movements along critical infrastructure corridors. TPI monitoring identifies unauthorised excavation, construction activity, and encroachment near pipelines and power grids using SAR change detection and optical imagery analysis. Ground Elevation Movement (GEM) alerts are derived from PS-InSAR (Permanent Scatterer interferometry), which detects millimetre-scale surface deformation associated with subsidence or uplift.[1] The technical baseline was established through the ESA-funded PIMSIS project, in which Orbital Eye participated as a subcontractor to S&T BV. Sentinel-1 C-band SAR is confirmed as a primary input; additional commercial optical and multispectral imagery is also used, with specific constellations not publicly disclosed.[2] Orbital Eye states 90 to 95 percent detection accuracy and early warning days to weeks ahead of traditional methods across more than 300,000 km of infrastructure corridors monitored annually, though no independent peer-reviewed validation of these figures has been found.[3] Customers include BHE GT&S, Gasunie Deutschland, and National Energy (Trinidad and Tobago). Output is delivered via web application, API, and GIS integration. Orbital Eye BV is based in Delft, Netherlands, and has been an ESA Business Applications network member since its ESA BIC Noordwijk incubation in 2012-2013.[4]
