Spire Soil Moisture Insights is an analytics service that delivers gridded volumetric soil moisture estimates derived from GNSS-R (Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry) signals collected by Spire's commercial nanosatellite constellation. The service targets precision agriculture operators, agri-intelligence platforms, food-supply risk analysts, and weather-dependent industries requiring frequent, regional-scale soil moisture data.

Spire's GNSS-R satellites capture reflected signals from the ground surface, from which soil moisture content is computed. The standard output covers the top 5 cm of the soil column at 9 km horizontal resolution. Spire product documentation as of 2026-05-31 also describes a 100 m resolution tier, but its commercial availability has not been independently confirmed at the time of research.[1][2] A peer-reviewed IEEE IGARSS 2024 paper validated the GNSS-R approach against reference datasets, supporting the scientific basis of the methodology.[3]

The service is updated multiple times daily, drawing on a multi-satellite pass cadence. In April 2026 Spire announced integration of soil moisture data with its weather forecast products under an agriculture intelligence offering.[4] Commercial deployments include agricultural analytics companies and, as of November 2024, the LatConnect60 platform for sustainable agriculture applications.[5]

Delivery is API-based. The service is available directly from Spire Global and via third-party integration partners.
