PlanetScope four-band Dove instrument generation used for early Planet Dove imagery.
Dove Classic is the PS2 PlanetScope instrument generation, a retired four-band passive optical multispectral frame imager operated by Planet Labs PBC.[1] Planet's availability window for this generation runs from July 2014 to 2022-04-29, making it a historical PlanetScope source for time series that predate later Dove-R and SuperDove coverage.[1]
The instrument provides blue, green, red and near-infrared bands, with published band ranges of 455-515 nm, 500-590 nm, 590-670 nm and 780-860 nm.[1] For resolution planning, the generation-level native GSD is 3.7 m, while USGS characterization describes about 4 m pixel GSD for the Dove Classic system.[2]
Scene products are approximately 25.0 x 11.5 sq km, so the 25 km catalogue dimension should be read as the along-scene dimension rather than a square 25 km swath.[1] Dove Classic has demonstrated vegetation-index mapping with the four shared RGB and NIR bands, but cross-generation analysis against Dove-R or SuperDove data needs attention to the different spectral response functions.[1]
