PlanetScope four-band Dove-R instrument generation with updated Bayer pattern and pass-band filters.
Dove-R is the PS2.SD PlanetScope instrument generation, a retired four-band passive optical multispectral frame imager operated by Planet Labs PBC.[1] Planet's availability window for Dove-R runs from March 2019 to 2022-04-22, placing it between the earlier Dove Classic archive and the later SuperDove generation.[1]
The instrument uses blue, green, red and near-infrared bands with published ranges of 464-517 nm, 547-585 nm, 650-682 nm and 846-888 nm.[1] The sensor keeps the PS2 telescope lineage but uses an updated Bayer pattern and pass-band filters, which makes it a distinct PlanetScope generation rather than a direct spectral duplicate of Dove Classic.[1]
The generation-level native GSD is 3.7 m, while USGS characterization describes about 4 m pixel GSD for Dove-R.[2] PlanetScope Scene products for Dove-R are approximately 25.0 x 23.0 sq km.[1] Dove-R has demonstrated vegetation-index mapping with the shared RGB and NIR band set, with cross-generation time series requiring care around spectral response differences.[1]
