FANTANA single-photon Doppler wind lidar sensor for aviation turbulence and aerospace sensing.
The FANTANA Doppler Wind Lidar is a compact single-photon direct-detection Doppler lidar developed by Fantana GmbH (Vienna, Austria) in collaboration with Vienna University of Technology (EMCE) under Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) project 900822.[1][2] It is designed for aviation turbulence sensing ahead of aircraft and for wind measurement in industrial and wind-energy contexts, operating in a forward-looking airborne configuration.[1] Single-photon APD detection is used to achieve compact instrument dimensions. Fantana reported in company materials that its first product reached flight testing in 2025; the specific platform for this lidar was not published at the time of research. Operating wavelength and named flight-test details were not published at the time of research.
