Fantana

FANTANA GmbH is an Austrian electro-optical and photonic hardware manufacturer headquartered in Vienna/Graz, Austria.^[1][2] The company describes a founding year of 2019, though an Austrospace member listing references 2022; the fantana.at site is the preferred source.^[1][2]

FANTANA develops and manufactures electro-optical systems across satellite, aviation, defence, and industrial segments. For space applications, the product line includes optical systems and power supply units for small satellites and CubeSats, and motor drivers for satellite tracking and optical free-space communication.^[3] A single-photon-based Doppler wind lidar sensor targets aviation turbulence sensing and aerospace applications, with an ultra-compact form factor enabled by avalanche photodiode detection.^[3] A Cooled Single Photon Receiver using APD technology supports optical satellite-to-ground laser communication downlinks.^[3] A Laser Ranger with Beam Stabilization uses tip-tilt mirror technology for atmospheric turbulence compensation in free-space optical communication terminals.^[3]

In the defence segment, FANTANA launched a Drone Defense System in early 2023 that integrates compact radar and lidar sensors for UAV detection, tracking, and defence.^[4] For industrial and agricultural monitoring, the company supplies an AI-Based Image Segmentation System with onboard neural network inference for real-time process and crop monitoring.^[3]

FANTANA is an Austrospace member.^[2] The company participated as a partner in an ESA Commercialisation Gateway project on automated satellite-based forest damage detection with Infineon Technologies Austria.^[5]
