Earth radiation budget monitoring tracks the balance between incoming solar radiation and the shortwave radiation reflected and longwave radiation emitted back to space at the top of the atmosphere, the net energy balance that governs climate.[1][2] Broadband radiometry measures total reflected shortwave and emitted longwave flux across the full solar and thermal infrared spectrum from geostationary orbit, capturing the diurnal cycle of the radiation budget over a fixed field of view.[1] Multi angle, multi spectral polarimetry measures the angular and polarization signature of reflected sunlight, supporting characterization of cloud and aerosol properties that shape the shortwave side of the radiation balance.[2] Together broadband flux measurement and angularly resolved polarimetric observation give a fuller picture of both the magnitude and the drivers of the top of atmosphere radiation imbalance.
