Commercial optical payload manufacturer for nano-, micro-, and small satellites, headquartered in Leuven, Belgium with offices in France, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Heritage from the South African small satellite industry (SunSat / SumbandilaSat programme). Two product lines: the xScape multispectral and RGB / video payloads (xScape50 1U at 30 m GSD, xScape100 1.5U at 4.75 m, xScape200 12U at 1.5 m) and the HyperScape100 hyperspectral payload at 1.5U volume (VNIR 460-860 nm with a continuously variable optical filter exposing up to 400 available bands at 442-884 nm of which 32 can be configured per capture, 4.75 m GSD at 500 km, 19.4 km swath, 12-bit). 50+ clients worldwide; EUR 13.5M growth round backed by NewSpace Capital and Knife Capital.

Simera Sense is a Belgian optical payload manufacturer providing compact imaging instruments for nano-, micro-, and small satellites. Founded in 2018 in Leuven, Belgium, the company is privately held under Simera Holdings, a South African technology investment firm, with engineering roots in the South African small satellite programme.[1] Manufacturing rate has reached approximately 12 cameras per month, with the company reporting 40 or more payloads on orbit and a customer base exceeding 50 organisations.[2]

The product range is built around the xScape platform family, structured across three form-factor tiers and three spectral configurations per tier.

50-series (1U, 0.51 kg): The smallest tier delivers 30 m GSD at 500 km over a 120 km swath. TriScape50 captures RGB video at 1080p30. MultiScape50 adds panchromatic and 7-band VNIR multispectral coverage across 450-900 nm. HyperScape50 extends to 32-band hyperspectral imaging across 460-860 nm.

100-series (1.5U, 1.26 kg): The mid-tier shares a 580 mm focal length, 95 mm aperture optical train, 4.75 m GSD at 500 km, and 19.4 km swath across all variants. TriScape100 provides RGB with NIR filter and 1080p30 video at 12.6 MP. MultiScape100 delivers panchromatic plus 8-band VNIR across 450-900 nm using digital TDI. HyperScape100 uses a Continuously Variable Optical Filter to expose 32 user-configurable bands from 460-860 nm.[3]

200-series (12U, 12.31 kg): The high-resolution tier delivers 1.5 m GSD at 500 km over a 14 km swath. TriScape200 captures high-resolution RGB with NIR at 65.4 MP and 1080p30 video. MultiScape200 provides panchromatic across 500-750 nm plus 8-band VNIR at 1.5 m. HyperScape200 extends the 32-band hyperspectral capability to 1.5 m GSD.[4]

A tenth product, the SSA Scape100 Full Motion camera, was launched in May 2026 as a Space Situational Awareness instrument derived from the xScape100 optical platform, targeting a flight model in Q2 2027.[5]

Named missions and engagements include xScape200 payloads for the LatConnect60 SWIRSAT mission (launch December 2026) and a HyperScape100 paired with a KP Labs Leopard DPU for the OPS-SAT VOLT demonstrator under ESA (planned mid-2026).[2][6] Infinite Orbits has contracted Simera Sense for an SSA payload on the Orbit Guard mission under the French CNES France 2030 programme.[7] A partnership with Zaitra enables edge-on-orbit autonomous payload processing.

In March 2024, Simera Sense closed a EUR 13.5M growth round led by NewSpace Capital with participation from Knife Capital and additional investors, funding expanded European production facilities and higher-resolution and short-wave infrared product development.[8] Operations span Belgium (HQ and primary manufacturing), South Africa (origin site), France (Toulouse subsidiary, opened June 2024), and the United Kingdom.
